Surfing in the cold sea!

My friend took me on a drive to a sea last month.
It was really cold day. It was probably around one degree.
I took this picture from a car so it's a little dark,
but you can see in it two surfers who were going to the water with their surfboards.

There weren't many people at this spot,
but there were many surfers at the other beaches.

I've never surfed.
I guess it must be so fascinating that people can put up with the cold water...

Facebook was useful for the first time ever!

Since I created a Facebook account two years ago,
I haven't been using it much other than for accepting friend requests.
A part from my friends, I get somewhat scared
when Facebook comes up with the names of the many people whom I know.
I have other reasons that I don't use Facebook,
but it'll be long so I won't write about it today.

However, the time has finally come to shine on Facebook's usefulness!

When I went to a hair salon the other day,
my hair stylist looked like she had something to say.
After she made sure no one was listening,
she said in small voice while cutting my hair,

"To tell the truth, I'm going to quit my job here soon.
Try to find and contact me on Facebook."

The hair salon which she works for doesn't allow her to take customers
when workers quit and move to other hair salons.
Since I found her on Facebook, I can keep going to her next hair salon.

I bet she would be feeling so grateful that there is such a thing as Facebook.

A Display of Japanese Women's Anger

Yesterday, I went to a museum with a Polish friend who has an eye for art.
Looking at an exhibition made of rusty iron, I said,
"Well... This looks as though some bars of chocolates were stack up...."
"Huh? Well... Do you want to leave here? (‘・c_・` ;)"

I enjoyed some of the sculptures, but I wasn't very interested in the exhibition at beginning,
and so my my first impressions had missed the point completely.
He realised that, and we left the museum just after looking at some other exhibitions.

After that, we went to a nice cafe close to the museum,
we talked about men and women a lot.  It was really fun!
The polish friend asked me the same question that
two other non-native Japanese have asked me before. They asked:

"Why don't Japanese women speak at all when they get angry?"

When I get angry, I usually become talkative to work out issues.
Since I was not sure, I asked about this to two of my Japanese friends later
and understood that Japanese women are prone to ignore their partners
when they get angry!

I couldn't believe this, but my friend's mother and a wife of one of my non-native
Japanese friends didn't talk their partners for a month! A MONTH!
The friend's father is also Japanese so I think the problem is not because of languages.

If you have a Japanese girlfriend or wife, I think you should know about this! :D

Thank you :)

Nowadays, even though we live far away,
we can send text message easily to each other anytime.
Instead of that, we rarely have opportunities to write letters.
The other day, when I was texting one of my friends who lives abroad,
he sent me a picture instead of closing words.
In the picture, there were only some words and a
"Thank you " punctuated with a smiley.

Last night, we didn't text, but he sent me a picture
which had the message "Good night" written by hand.

When I had a long-distance relationship,
my ex-boyfriend sent me a picture of his letter.
I really loved that. My friend's picture reminded me of my happier days.

I've never told him before that I love handwritten letters though...
I'm always glad to get his pictures!

Speaking of which, it is commonly known in Japan that
one's personality comes out in writing  letters.

My Scary Friends

I might have written about my scary friends before here though...

One of them often mentions to me about
exactly the same thing of which I'm thinking.
He suddenly asks whether I can play a certain piano song
that is fairly unknown, but my favorite, or asks whether I like certain food
that I'm going to eat for lunch.

Another friend rarely calls me, but I often get her call or text message when I'm abroad.
Before I went to France last year,
I wondered if I might get a message from her.
Then, I actually got her text message in Paris!
I wonder how she can do this sort of thing?

These kind of coincidences often happen so now I am getting used to it. :)

XO, not XOXO

When I was a teenager, I used to stop by my friends's house to go to cram school together.
Before going out, she wanted something to drink and
took a bottle labelled "XO" out of a sideboard and
drank a glass of it with great relish in a rush.
Since I had never seen it before, I asked;

"Is it delicious?"

"It's nothing special."

She said.

After a few days, I found a bottle with the same label at my home and
recalled that she drank it with relish.
I poured it into a glass and drank it up in one gulp.
As you may know, XO is one of the expensive cognac that the alcohol percentage is 40.
You can imagine how sick I was after drinking.
When I met her later, I asked whether she often drinks XO.

She said, "Ah, it was tea in the bottle.
My mom fills the bottle with tea to decorate the sideboard with the bottle."

No wonder she could study normally at cram school.

My friend drank XO last night which reminded me of this story.

Which situation is more preferable?

1) Living with a person who will love you very very much forever,
but you don't have special feelings of love towards them.

2) Living with a person whom you will love very very much forever,
but that person doesn't love you like you love them.

To this day...

I can't believe my darkest hour is before the dawn.
I haven't seen sun light for three years and now
realized that-
I won't be able to see it for good and all.
